Scholarship Details:

A research on the freshwater ecology of Northern Forest lowlands, including wooded bogs and seeps, will include the incumbent.

The research will contribute to our knowledge of the management of northeastern lowland forests, with an emphasis on northern white-cedar forests, and intermittent wetland habitats and processes. This entails formulating standardized measuring techniques and evaluating ecological effects in these systems.

The Particular goals are:

1) to evaluate the effects of different harvesting techniques on wetland processes in northern white-cedar woods, with an emphasis on decomposition and insect biomass, assemblages, and biodiversity in the wetted environment;

2) to provide standardized quantification techniques for seasonal wet lowlands’ aquatic leaf litter processing, wood decomposition, and insect biodiversity that may be used across the Northern Forest; and

3) to inform forestry professionals on the trade-offs between wetland ecosystem state and biodiversity caused by harvest regimes in order to support lowland forest management planning.

Scholarship Requirements:

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • possess a B.S. in biology, ecology, statistics, or a related field; be proficient with numbers; have an interest in aquatic ecology; and have a strong work ethic.
  • possess knowledge of and passion for macroinvertebrates. Possessing familiarity with R and other aquatic field and laboratory methods would be advantageous.
  • Have As this project will include collaboration with several partners, including an interesting team of scholars and resource practitioners, effective communication skills are crucial.

Scholarship Duration and Reward:

$23,000 will be paid over the course of two years as a research assistant salary. The scheme will pay for tuition and half of the cost of health insurance. Additionally, there could be a chance to get funding for a teaching assistantship for one or two semesters.
